Sound research will always be a part of your treatment
DR. TONYA LOKEN, ND, MScN, LN
I am so excited to be back in the Fargo-Moorhead area, to serve my hometown and all its health care needs. I am looking forward to meeting each and everyone of you, and helping you along your healing journey!
After completing my bachelors degree in nutrition, from the University of North Dakota (GO Sioux!), I spent four years in Portland, OR studying to be a Naturopathic doctor, at the oldest Naturopathic medical school in the country, the National University of Natural Medicine (NUNM). During my time at NUNM I completed my doctorate in Naturopathic medicine (ND), my masters degree in whole food nutrition (MScN), and researched the in and outs of thyroid health and autoimmunity.
My masters degree in nutrition, gives me a unique expertise in nutrition education, meal plan development, specialized diets, and nutritional medicine, which I believe is the foundation of health.
Research is a big part of medicine and health these days, and I believe in using the most up to date and researched, natural therapies for healing. My research focused on thyroid disease, autoimmune disease, and immunology (immune system function). You can rest assured that sound research will always be a part of your treatment.
Clinical Education:
I completed a year long mentor-ship with one of Naturopathic medicines foremost authorities on digestive health, Dr. Steven Sandberg-Lewis. During this time I worked with patients who suffered from complex gastrointestinal conditions, that were “untreatable” by conventional medicine. I believes in using nutritional medicine, botanical medicine, homeopathy, and various emotional techniques, to get to the root cause of disease, allowing the body to heal itself, as it is designed to do. Additionally, I completed a six month internship with Dr. Martin Milner, an expert in Naturopathic cardiology and pulmonology, where I had the opportunity to work with patients who suffered from advanced cardiac and pulmonary diseases.
Personal interests:
I have a passion for cooking, trying new recipes that are fresh and in season, traveling the country/world, and spending time with my new husband, family, and friends. It’s so nice to be close to them again! I definitely don’t have the greenest thumb, but I continue to work to make it greener, by working in the garden, so I can enjoy fresh herbs for cooking, and tasty garden tomatoes and cucumbers, which are my favorite!
Thanks for taking the time to get to know a little about me! I look forward to getting to know you, and helping you build a strong foundation for life long health.
